| Seminar on Social Entrepreneurship - Water |
Water is one of the key ingredients for life to exist on earth and yet less than 1% of the
world’s fresh water (or about 0.007% of all water on earth) is readily accessible for direct
human use.
India is the largest groundwater user in the world, with an estimated usage of around 230
cubic kilometers per year, more than a quarter of the global total. With more than 60
percent of irrigated agriculture and 85 percent of drinking water supplies dependent on it,
groundwater is a vital resource for India. Thus with 16% of worlds population and only
4% of worlds fresh water resources, availability of water for all is a concern that is fast
griping the nation.
With a scenario such as this, it is imperative to approach the issue with innovative
methods and “social entrepreneurship” is one of the ways to address the crisis. Social
entrepreneurs function as the agents of change, questioning the status quo, grabbing the
new yet overlooked opportunities, and changing the world for the better.
Discussions would be held on future prospects of Social Entrepreneurs to develop
sustainable water management mechanisms and improve water access in the areas of
need in India. The seminar is being organised on the sidelines of the Pravasi Bharatiya
Divas – 2012. The Seminar would be held from 9:30 – 13.00 hrs on 7
th
January 2012 at
Birla Auditorium, Jaipur. It would be followed by an IDF marketplace and B2B
interactions from 14:00 hrs to 1600 hrs.
The Seminar would be open to all delegates registered for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas –
2012.
